Description - Theme: Newer Clinical, Operative and Supportive (Palliative) Strategies in Oncology

ONCOS 1.0, 2026 brought together experts in anaesthesia, surgery, oncology, intensive care, palliative care, nursing, and research to discuss advances in comprehensive perioperative cancer care. The conference attracted over 100 delegates from across the country.

The conference was inaugurated by Maj. Gen. (Dr.) Vibha Dutta, SM (Retd.), Executive Director, AIIMS Gorakhpur, in the presence of Air Commodore (Dr.) Pradeep Jaiswal and Prof. (Dr.) Mukesh Tripathi. Organising Chairman Prof. (Dr.) Santosh Kumar Sharma and Organising Secretary Dr. Ankita Kabi emphasized the need for dedicated training in perioperative oncology.

The scientific programme featured 24 eminent faculty members from 17 cities representing AIIMS institutions, Institutes of National Importance, and other premier centres. Highlights included lectures by Prof. (Dr.) Namrata Ranganath, Prof. Jyotsna Goswami, Prof. (Dr.) Sohan Solanki covering difficult airway management, prehabilitation, HIPEC and HITHOC, robotic uro-oncosurgery, ERAS, multimodal analgesia, cancer pain management, and palliative care. Prof. (Dr.) Tanmay Tiwari guided the organising team. Dr. Divya Srivastava, Treasurer of the ISA Uttar Pradesh Branch, delivered an insightful session on anaesthetic considerations in robotic uro-oncosurgerie. Interactive sessions such as "Case Bullets" and a panel discussion on the "Vision of Palliative Care in India" promoted multidisciplinary learning and evidence-based practice.

The second day included hands-on workshops on cadaveric fluoroscopy-guided procedures, ultrasound-guided cancer pain interventions, airway ultrasonography and airway blocks, and chemoport and central venous catheter insertion. A landmark feature was India's first workshop on Nutritional Ultrasonography, alongside a dedicated nursing workshop on advanced palliative care.

The conference also showcased over 35 scientific abstracts, free papers, e-posters, photography, and PICOT competitions, reaffirming AIIMS Gorakhpur's commitment to advancing multidisciplinary oncology education, innovation, and patient-centred cancer care.
